They move like robots. The sea of people below flicker, bouncing to heavy bass with hands in the air and liquid courage in their veins. It takes milliseconds for them vanish and appear inches higher or lower in the strobe lights, all fluidity lost for robotic-like movements. Those with the JOI key around their neck hover over them all with almost god-like presence. The nightlife at the Jon Olsson Invitational is one of a kind.
It started yesterday with the Betsafe dinner at Timmerstugan. The esteemed guests dined like royalty on lavish steak, beans and potatoes with an endless supply of drinks to water it down: a precursor to what was to be one of the rowdiest nights of the week.
The way we partied after that, you would have never imagined the next day was competition day. It started with a tray full of Red Bull and vodka delivered to reserved tables overlooking the Betsafe party. Then came another tray… and another complimented by a bucket of shots. No one was safe from what would turn out to be a party we – well most of us – would remember for a lifetime.
The drinks never stopped, and in the VIP area champagne awaited the most esteemed guests on ice. It’s odd that every party here in Åre tops the last since the last earned the title of “best night of my life”. It really makes me curious… What is in store for us at the final party tonight?
Here we are treated like kings… and we sure as hell live up to it.
