A world of fantasy, flamboyancy and frenzy awaits the small Swedish town of Åre on this, the dawn of the 2015 Jon Olsson Invitational!
The riders began to trickle into town today along with snowfalls and a reminder that winter’s fury isn’t over just yet. Mother nature’s apt greeting lead way to curiosity and drew the riders to the feature; a massive kicker, the likes of which no one was prepared for, and a canon rail to match.
It wasn’t long before some of the veterans got antsy and decided to try their luck despite the evening’s snowfall. Thus, Aleksander Aurdal, Jesper Tjäder and the mighty young gun Nico Porteus clicked into their skis and ascended the run-in to find out just how big the jump actually is this year… Lo and behold, it is MASSIVE! The boys tested the kicker and canon thoroughly with straight airs, 360s and the first double 1080 of the event. Satisfied, the athletes retreated and let the beast lie for the night while the shapers perfected their masterpiece.
With most of the riders in town, it was only a matter of time before things got a bit rowdy. After the most attractive ‘Taco Tuesday’ dinner in all of Åre, it is time to laugh, smile and catch up on good times over a few welcome drinks!
